HOLLYWOOD ? It doesn?t come often when a boxer is trying to add up in weight so close to a big fight.
Well, Manny Pacquiao is.
?I?ve heard a lot of concerns about his size,? said Alex Ariza, the strength and conditioning coach of the reigning pound-for-pound champion from the Philippines.
?We?ve increased the fat intake and lowered the protein intake. We?ve increased the carbohydrates,? he added.
Just over a week ago, Ariza, who came into the picture for Pacquiao during the David Diaz fight in June of 2008, aired concern that Pacquiao?s weight is a little too low.
Pacquiao was at 146 lb then, Ariza said, and yesterday, another handler said Pacquiao tipped the scales at 150 with his clothes on.
Ariza said they?re trying to get Pacquiao to around 148 to 150 heading to the official weigh-in on the eve of the Nov. 13 showdown with Antonio Margarito in Arlington, Texas.
They want Pacquiao to tip the scales under 150, and climb the ring the following day at the same weight, regardless of whether Margarito comes in as heavy as 160 lb on fight night.
