A fuming Murad Muhammad yesterday threatened to go after ace trainer Freddie Roach, who had earlier accused him of being a thief and cheating Manny Pacquiao from his $700,000 purse in the Nov. 15, 2003 ?Clash of Titans? in which Pacquiao annihilated legendary featherweight king Marco Antonio Barrera in San Antonio, Texas.
In a wide-ranging interview with Greg Leon of the Web site Boxing Talk, Murad ranted and raved against Roach saying: ?I will not sleep until Freddie Roach is out of business when it comes to Manny Pacquiao or any other fighter that I work with. He?s a back-stabber. He is a cunning individual and I will come after him. Freddie smacked the hell out of my name and I am coming after him.?
When Leon sought to pin Murad down on an explanation of the $700,000 purse which the US promoter attempted to classify as a ?license fee,? Murad snapped back, ?we don?t want to teach you the business but that?s the way we promoters make our deals.?
Pressed to answer whether he negotiated for Pacquiao?s purse directly with HBO or Golden Boy Promotions, which HBO negotiated with, Murad said he didn?t want to get into this saying ?it?s nobody?s business how deals are made.?
