AJ Banal didn?t get the convincing win his handlers were expecting but despite that, ALA Promotions still has faith in the young prospect and will be sending him to the US for either a fight or to just hone his skills with more training.
?We will talk to Top Rank and see what happens,? ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu. ?He fought a good fight for the whole six rounds.?
Top Rank big boss Bob Arum has shown interest in the 21-year-old Cebuano and wants to include him in a Top Rank event.
Banal beat two-division world champion Luis Alberto Perez last Saturday by disqualification. Perez threw an illegal punch that sent Banal to the canvas, while the referee was separating the two boxers.
?We are also thinking of bringing him to the US to spar with different partners. Banal is only 21. The more experience he gets, the better. People forget that he is just 21 because of his skills,? said Aldeguer.
On the other hand, Aldeguer was impressed with the performance of Mark Jason Melligen, who disposed of Mexican Bladimir Hernandez in the third round with a wicked shot to the body.
?Melligen improved a lot because he was more aggressive and it helped that he has sparred with the best in Floyd Mayweather Jr., who has become his good friend and he gets some advice from Mayweather Jr.,? said Aldeguer.
Aldeguer said the 24-year-old Melligen will return to his campaign in the US for a fight in January.
