With its weird neon colouring and bizarre structures and buildings, Las Vegas’s sparkling strip – more than any other city on Earth – resembles the pixel-scape of an arcade game.
However, come Saturday night, Vegas, and more specifically, the Thomas & Mack Center, will officially become Pac-Land as thousands of Manny Pacquiao’s rabid followers descend en mass to cheer on their hero in his revenge mission against Erik Morales.
When the two 130lbs (9stone 4lbs) warriors last met on March 19, the Pac-Fans were slightly outnumbered by Morales’s own vocal hordes. However, perhaps buoyed by Morales’s dismal showing against Zahir Raheem last August, the swash-buckling Pacquiao has brought more fans to the rematch.
Morales’s promoter Bob Arum admitted: “Maybe because Erik lost against Raheem, the Philippine fans think Pacquiao’s going to do it this time. Last time it was more Mexicans in the building but it could be 60-40 for Pacquiao this Saturday.”
