LAS VEGAS — Gary Gittelsohn, the manager of Filipino world champion Brian Viloria, doesn’t see a close fight on Saturday at the Thomas and Mack Center here.
“I don’t see a close fight and I think it’s Manny’s fight. He worked hard for this and he deserves it,” said Gittelsohn who dropped by the Wild Card Gym Monday.
It was the last day of sparring for Pacquiao who gets his rematch with Morales five days from now. The Mexican boxer beat the Filipino ring hero last March at the MGM Grand here.
Gittelson shook hands with Pacquiao before he left the gym on his wide-bodied, two-door Mercedes Benz. He wished Pacquiao all the luck for his coming fight.
“I really feel it in my heart. This is Manny’s fight. So it’s going to be a good fight for the Philippines,” added Gittelsohn, who’s also busy preparing for Viloria’s title defense next month.
“Once Manny steps up, his aggression will take over. In their weight, I really think it’s only Pacquiao who can back Morales off. The Filipinos will love this fight,” he added.
The amiable boxing manager who resembles American comedian Chevy Chase said somebody close to Morales informed him that the former three-time champion is having trouble making weight.
The limit for the 12-round, non-title but multi-million-dollar fight is pegged at 130 lbs. Any boxer who goes over the limit, as stated in the contract, will be fined $250,000 for every excess pound.
“Oh, he’ll make weight. But I was told that he’s having trouble making it. I was also told that for the first time in his career, Morales has started questioning himself,” he said.
The answer to the question will be known on fight night.
