Trainer extraordinaire, Freddie Roach is “thrilled” to be back at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles for the last leg of training Manny Pacquiao for his upcoming battle against Antonio Margarito. Pacquiao faces Margarito on November 13th at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington Texas.
In a recent interview with Steve Kim of MaxBoxing, Roach who returned with Pacquiao on Saturday night from the
Philippines to L.A., told Kim he was “thrilled” to be back because there was too much distractions while in the
Phillipines. Roach stated: “The Philippines, the typhoons, distractions, it’s just too much bullsh*t.”
Pacquiao is loved by the people of the Philippines and its something Roach admires and respects, but it complicates matters when Roach is trying to get his pupil in shape and ready for a big fight.
“The thing is, it was just too many distractions,” said Roach to MaxBoxing, adding: “When Manny Pacquiao trains, nobody trains better. So really, we didn’t have a bad training camp; he just wasn’t every consistent. Every Sunday driving to Manila, a six-hour drive each way, it’s draining on the fighter. Mike Koncz getting married, Manny singing six songs at the wedding. Manny in San Diego last night for a charity event. The thing is, overall, I think it’s the worst training camp we ever had, yes. But we’re within striking distance and these two weeks are doing to help us a lot.”
If fans are worried, it seems like Roach is not. With 2 just over weeks to go, Roach is confident that Pacquiao will be prepared and although Roach feels it’s the worst camp they have ever had, they still did not have a bad training camp (as Roach states in the quoted material above).
