“Manila Ice” didn’t work. Maybe this one will.
When Manny Pacquiao engages in another slugfest with archrival Erik Morales on Sunday, the Filipino knockout artist reportedly has a “secret weapon” for his foe. Unlike before, it doesn’t have a monicker.
“We’re working on a new technique,” Pacquiao’s renowned trainer, Freddie Roach, was quoted by 15Rounds.com yesterday. Roach, who closed down his Wild Card Gym (Los Angeles) the last two weeks to conceal Pacquiao’s training regimen from the fans and media.
Roach, unlike last year, didn’t come up with a catchy nickname for their “secret arsenal.”
It can be recalled that going into the first Pacquiao-Morales scrap on March 20 last year, Roach declared that he and Pacquiao have come up with punch (reportedly a right-hand blow to the body) specifically designed for Morales, and even went as far as branding it with slick nickname, Manila Ice.
When the smoke cleared, however, the fabled “Manila Ice” was a no-show, and Pacquiao went on to lose via unanimous decision to Morales. Pacquiao, a hard-hitting lefty, seldom used his right hand and “didn’t go to Morales’ body enough” in that fight, according to Roach.
