THE MANDAUE City council is beating the odds for its hosting of the 2nd PLDT-Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) Visayas Area Boxing Tournament that will be held at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex on Oct. 26 to 30.
Close 300 amateur fighters from the different cities and municipalities from the Visayas are expected to showcase talents in the tournament.

The winners will be sent to the national finals set later this year.
Mandaue City Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede said they learned about the hosting late and they are now rushing so the budget will be released on time.
?We only received the request for the P500,000 budget for the hosting of the Abap Visayas Arena Boxing tournament last Tuesday from the Mandaue City Sports Commission.
It was not included in our agenda so we just informed the members of the city council and the mayor about it,? said Bercede, who is also the chairs the sports committee.
Resolution
?We got the draft resolution from Atty. (Hidelito) Pascual only last Tuesday, and there was no way we can pass the resolution last Thursday during our regular session, so I brought it up with the mayor (Jonas Cortes) and it?s as good as approved,? added Bercede.
Bercede is sponsoring a resolution for the passage of the budget together with Councilor Beethoven Andaya, who is the chairman of the committee on budget and appropriation at the city council.
The amount requested by the Mandaue City Sports Commission is intended for the officiating officials, meals and some cash prizes to the winners.
The budget also includes the meals, transportation, allowance and uniforms for the three Mandaue City boxing teams that will see action in the tourname
