GOLFING superstar Tiger Woods was reported to have settled his divorce suit with wife for a cool US$100 million.
Tiger of course is a sports icon in the US and all over the world and until his ?sexcapades? exploded in late 2008, he was the epitome of how superstar athletes should handle themselves both in public and in private.
Wood?s performance dipped after that and he is in danger of losing his number one ranking this year.
He is still a hot copy although on the wayward side. Every failure is magnified and superimposed on the scandals he allegedly committed. Avery time he failed, his popularity gets a shellacking.
The American people have high tolerance limits but promiscuous lifestyles are taboo among sports icons of his stature. Just as Kobe Bryant almost saw his basketball career almost came to an end when he was accused of raping a spa attendant.
So what do these things have to do with Manny Pacquiao, world boxing champion and member of Philippine Congress?
Plenty.
For one, Pacquiao?s past chronicles and romantic brushes with women other than his wife are well reported. A woman even claimed Manny sired a child of hers.
Even women in media have something to say about Manny?s ways with attractive ladies. A colleague recently told me that Manny flirted with a foreign correspondent who once was assigned to interview him.
Manny reportedly insisted on getting the hotel room number of that reporter who was apprenticing for an online publication.
While I don?t want to make a hasty conclusion over that episode, women?s instinct when being flirted upon is almost always on target.
Which brings us back to the lessons Manny should learn from Tiger Woods and Kobe Bryant.
Fame and money attract people around you. But some of them could spell disaster.
