Anyone that saw Lucian Bute?s knockout victory over Jesse Brinkley on Friday night saw the continued dominance of one of the best super middleweights in the world. Brinkley was a game competitor and never stopped trying to get to the taller, more skilled Bute. Bute, who has used his left uppercut in the same way a surgeon uses a scalpel, picked Brinkley apart with that punch. Bute threw the left uppercut to Brinkley?s head in the early rounds, making him wary of it landing. Bute landed the left uppercut to Brinkley?s midsection in the fifth round, sending the former contestant on ?The Contender? crumpling to the canvas. Brinkley was dropped twice more in the fight by Bute?s precise left uppercut; once in the eighth round, and again in the ninth. The ninth round proved to be Brinkley?s last, as it appeared he waived off the fight as the referee rushed over to check on the fallen gladiator.
