LOS ANGELES, CA (JAN. 15, 2006) — Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao and world class trainer Freddie Roach have been holding closed-door training sessions to polish a secret weapon to be used on Erik Morales next Saturday in Las Vegas.
“We’re working on a new technique,” said Freddie Roach, who closed down his Wild Card Gym for media and fans the last two weeks.
Last Thursday Manny Pacquiao held a media workout but shortly after they closed the gym down so they can concentrate more on his “secret arsenal.”
Pacquiao’s new promoter, Gary Shaw, is expecting a fight similar to the first, with a different ending. “This fight will be no different than the last fight, other than the outcome.”
When preparing Manny Pacquiao for his first encounter with Erik Morales, Freddie Roach promoted a secret weapon called “Manilla Ice,” which was a right hand punch, a move that is seldomly used by the Filipino native. And it was seldomly used by Pacquiao the night of their fight. In fact, we would end up getting hit with Erik Morales’ right hand arsenal.
Manny Pacquiao was a 7-5 favorite since they announced their second fight last year, but yesterday he dropped to a 10-8 underdog, according to Sportsbook odds.
Manny Pacquiao and Erik Morales will square-off in a one of the most anticipated rematches of the New Year on January 21, 2006, from the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. The fight will be televised on HBO PPV beginning at 9:00 ET/ 6:00PT.
