Marty Elorde?s suggestion that Congress get involved in the current controversy over the purse of Manny Pacquiao in his Nov. 15 fight against the legendary Marco Antonio Barrera shows just how naive the young Elorde is, because the surest prescription for disaster is to get congressmen involved in what is a purely business deal between Pacquiao and his handlers.
If at all, the only other party with an interest in the affair would be the US Internal Revenue Service, which would wish to make sure the correct taxes were paid based on the actual purse of Pacquiao as well as American legislators who crafted the Muhammad Ali Reform Act in order to protect fighters from unscrupulous promoters and managers and to basically keep the fight game clean. Their target would be Murad, not Manny.
The one person who could put an end to the insinuations of wrongdoing or accusations of cheating is Pacquiao himself.
