Cuban heavyweight prospect Odlanier Solis, formerly a Top Rank promoted fighter, has switched sides and signed an agreement with legendary fight producer Don King.
Solis, 30 years old with 16 wins, 12 knock-outs, and no defeats, is being mentioned for a November fight against fellow King stablemate Ray Austin (39 years old, 28 wins, 19 knock-outs, and 2 defeats).
The winner of a Solis (ranked number two by the World Boxing Council) – Austin (ranked #1 by the WBC) would become a mandatory challenger to the Council?s champion, Ukrainian Vitali Klitschko
Guzman tries to repair reputation
Trying to shake the image of being a fighter who cannot make the contracted weight for a bout, the Dominican Republic?s Joan Guzman returns to the ring in New York City?s Armory Center on November 5 against Christopher Fernandez (18-10-1, 11 KOs).
Guzman (30-0-1, 17 KOs) failed to make weight for a lightweight battle against Ali Funeka in March of this last year, came in nine pounds above the weight limit and defeated the South African by split-decision.
In May, 2008, Guzman had to cancel a fight after failing to make the 135 limit against American Nate Campbell.
Guzman versus Fernandez will take place at the junior welterweight limit – a first for Guzman.
