I remember a long time ago when a diplomatic George Foreman had just lost his title to Shannon Briggs but he was trying to be a good sport and said Briggs earned the decision.
Shane Mosley did his best George Foreman impersonation late last night as a sure if not solid victory over Sergio Mora was called a draw by the inept California State Athletic Commission panel of judges.
How could it be?
How could such an inexperienced and amateurish group of judges be given the responsibility of scoring a fight of one as experienced as Shane Mosley?
Not to mention promoter Golden Boy (of California) played this one up big with HBO PPV and a world-wide audience.
What was California thinking? Or was this actually the best they could do?
The judges were either inept or they panicked in a rather easy fight to judge. I had it 117-111 for Mosley, while two from California had it a draw, 114-114, and 115-113 for the listless, sleep inducing Mora.
Actually, Mosley didn’t fight such a great fight, but he clearly swept the early and middle rounds by being the aggressor and trying to make a fight out of an event Mora didn’t wake up for until around the 9th round.
I don’t think this performance lands Mosley another Superfight just yet. But he won and that should be clear.
