No one can deny the role of a trainer in boxing is fundamental. The truth is that without these men the star figures of Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather, and Juan Manuel Marquez among others would be nothing.
The reality is that the trainer is rarely recognized, we always applaud and recognize the students but not the teachers, but the technique is thought by these men that indicate the path. Each trainer has his way of teaching, some like pure technique, others raw power and 100% strength and some prefer speed.
On the other hand we have a few trainers that are recognized like Freddie Roach mentor of the great Manny Pacquiao or the likes of Ignacio “Nacho” Beristain that trains Juan Manuel and Rafael Marquez among other champions.
There is no doubt that some trainers are recognized for their hard work and dedication, but there is a lot more like Tiburcio Garcia that we don’t know much about and seldom do they get credit for the work they do, even tough they’ve trained fighters that became World Champions. This is most noticed in Mexico where the government does not care much about helping young people or trainers so they can grow and develop to their full potential. Actually some of these political leaders gain riches instead of helping this sport in Mexico. With these kind of situations where are not going to see growth in boxing in Mexico. We all know of the quality of the Mexican athlete specially the one that gets the support needed, they raise to a higher level.
We need to recognize and applaud the boxing trainer all the time his student does something important, the questions is: Who really recognize the hard work and dedication of a boxing trainer?
