If everything works out with the contractual negotiations, we could see a junior welterweight unification in January of 2011 between Devon Alexander and Timothy Bradley. Both fighters are undefeated and each hold a major championship title. If the magnitude of this fight wasn’t already high enough, Alexander’s manager Kevin Cunningham said that the winner of this fight would be in the mix for a potential fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr or Manny Pacquiao.
According to AOL Fanhouse, Cunningham made the following comments:
“Devon and Tim are both undefeated world champions, while the other so-called top guys at 140 have been knocked out or beaten already. The winner of this fight between Devon and Tim is in the mix with Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao and Shane Mosley.”
In my opinion, I believe the winner will take on Shane Mosley. I don’t believe either of them will jump to the front of the line with Floyd Jr or Manny Pacquiao. Like I mentioned in a previous article, Mosley is the perfect fight for Alexander or Bradley; two fighters who are looking to add a big name to their resume. Mosley will be looking for meaningful fights and this will be the biggest option left for him.
I think Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao will face off in the spring of next year, which will take them off the list for potential fights with Alexander and Bradley. We all know that Mayweather will only fight once a year and Manny is on the verge of retirement as well.
