Earlier today in Frankfurt, Germany, heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and challenger Samuel Peter participated in a public training session at the local Mercedes Benz branch. The two men will meet this Saturday night in a rematch of their 2005 encounter in Atlantic City in which Klitschko emerged victorious despite suffering three knockdowns.
Peter is originally from Nigeria but has been a staple on the Las Vegas scene for several years now. After signing with Top Rank Promotions last year he has seemed to get his career back on track by scoring four successive victories. Peter?s winning streak had come on the heels of back to back losses to Klitschko?s brother Vitali and Philadelphia?s Eddie Chambers.
At 34 years of age time seems to be slipping away for Klitschko to make his mark in the sport as the past few years have seen him involved in bouts that failed to capture anyone?s full attention. A rematch with Peter isn?t the type of bout to get anyone?s blood flowing but an emphatic knockout would help his cause tremendously as he heads into 2011. The fight many would love Wladimir to take is a showdown with WBA champion David Haye but the British fighter is tied into a November 13th bout with Audley Harrison himself in Manchester.
