OPINION – The only thing more mean-spirited and embarrassing than Floyd Mayweather’s Thursday rant toward Manny Pacquiao and all Filipinos was his Friday apology.
This just might have stuck a fork in any future Mayweather vs. Pacquiao talks.
When and if promoter Bob Arum comes back to work after the recent tragic death of his son, John, I don’t think he’ll want to put up with this childish nonsense and might turn the whole thing over to his stepson and Top Rank President Todd duBoef.
The qualities Mayweather had going for him were an unbeaten 41-0 (25 KO’s) record and good pay per view sales numbers.
But those might not be enough to get Arum back to the negotiating table. In fact, Pacquiao is probably willing to walk away himself just to back his promoter and on matter of principle. The principle being Mayweather is just not worth it.
Pacquiao certainly has seemed to have the moral high ground between the two if for no other reason than Mayweather is just so crude and nasty. Does that mean Pacquiao would also win the fight? No it doesn’t.
But I’m passed worrying if the fight will ever be made anymore. I might miss the fight not happening, but it’s time to grow up for me. Other fights have also come and gone and I have survived.
The negotiation of a fight is in essence the most important part of it and I can’t see Arum wanting any part of Mayweather and his tricks and minions any more when he has more important personal things on his mind.
