Yesterday was the first day of the boxing tournament in Maywood, CA and the Philippine National Team was on hand to observe the fights. The tournament, which will be held until Sunday will involve members of the national team starting today and they are encouraging their fellow Pinoys to attend the event to show support.
Today, the tournament will start at 6pm and will feature Charly Suarez, who is the country’s best bet to win a gold medal. Also, Julian Santos Chua will be on hand to show support for his fellow national team members. Chua is young bright prospect, who hails from Indiana, but now resides in Hollywood and currently trains at the Wild Card Gym. According to Mr. Hermie Rivera, this kid has all the physical attributes and skills needed to become a great fighter and even impressed Freddie Roach.
This tournament provides the rare chance to observe the national team members, so this is a must see event for those Filipino boxing fans around the area. If you cannot make it today, then you can also attend and watch the event on Saturday and Sunday starting at 12pm.
This tournament is being used for their preparation for the upcoming ASEAN Games this upcoming November, so come by and cheer for these athletes who are working hard to bring honor to this country.
