I have gone on the record on more than one occasion and defended Floyd Mayweather Jr. Never did I defend his behaviors, just his boxing ability inside of the ring. There are no questions, and no logical debate that can dispute his genius with his fists. This being said, Floyd’s recent rant and disgusting language toward Manny Pacquiao makes it very hard to say anything nice at all about him.
Mayweather recently dropped some serious F bombs, and went to the race card when he used the word “rice” and mother *#(#-er during a verbal attack directed at Manny Pacquiao. This type of language and behavior makes it very difficult to conjure up anything nice to say about the guy.
Speaking for myself, I am beginning to wonder if I even want to write about Floyd’s fighting ability anymore. His behavior outside of the ring makes him a very hard person to respect. It’s getting to the point where it’s harder to separate Floyd’s boxing and Floyd’s personal behavior as it pertains to boxing writing.
I have sent Floyd several twitter messages asking him to “Please” be more humble. Floyd sends out tweets about his money, pictures of his money, his cars, and house, blah blah blah. Nobody likes a show off, and not many people are impressed with a person who rubs his fame and fortune in their face.
Floyd’s fans in Mississippi are growing tired of his arrogance as well. The general consensus is the same, they love his boxing and dislike his personality. I spoke with a Mayweather fan yesterday in Jackson, MS an African American, and this is what he told me in regards to Floyd’s latest actions, “Floyd is a great fighter with a great big mouth. If his personality was half as good as his boxing he might be a black man that black kids could look up to in my hood. As it is now? I don’t even want my kids to look at this guy, he’s an idiot.”
Recently I spoke with Floyd Mayweather Sr, and we talked about Floyd’s charities in Las Vegas. It’s true, Floyd actually does do good things for the homeless, and for the youth. As soon as you find something nice to write about, Floyd pulls this latest magic trick out of his hat. Charities are great, but when you behave like an arrogant thug, THAT’S what people remember you for most.
Perhaps Floyd is having some regrets and wishes that he would have taken the fight, and now he is bitter about it. Who knows? All this writer knows is that as an American, and Floyd being an American, it is getting very difficult to say anything nice about this guy, and it’s his own fault.
