Last night as Im watching the program ?A Los Golpes? (translation: to the blows) on ESPN Radio, I put close attention to what the commentators Marcelo Masanti and Alvaro Riet were saying. As I?m listening, Im telling myself, these guys are well respected analysts of the sport and they concur with what I?ve been saying all along. Some times there are things that are so simple, they become clearly undetectable.
It is virtually impossible that Margarito knew nothing about the illegal substance that was being applied to his hand wraps. This was the opinion of the well respected Uruguayan Commentators. But to my surprise, towards the end of the telecast a well respected journalist, Ismael Rubio of Fanaticos.com destroyed that hypothesis in seconds as he disagreed and exposed his opinion in a completely opposite view.

This morning, as im reading Ismael Rubio?s blog on Fanaticos.com l came to terms and realized how this young man spoiled an argument making a lot of people see something so simple become so clearly undetectable. Furthermore, one of those persons whom I include is the excellent writer Thomas Hauser.

They discussed how in their opinion the Mexican fighter Antonio Margarito absolutely knew of the illegal substance that his former trainer Javier Capetillo applied to his hand wraps for his fight in January 2009 against the American Sugar Shane Mosley.
They spoke about certain compounds that Margarito?s bandages contained. They went on to explain that if mixed with water they tend to harden and become what is known as ?Plaster of Paris?. They went on to mention the point of sensibility. The hands, since we all know, are one of the most sensitive parts of the body, and for this reason, according to them, Margarito should have felt the content that the bandages carried. But the commentators never used their common sense.
I ask myself, how could Antonio Margarito feel that his hand wraps were loaded if he was yet to enter combat? He was being hand wrapped when Mosley?s trainer and the Commission noticed something fishy was going on.
When one argues something based on speculations, one should at least use commen sense. It is clear that if these compounds or substances that the bandages contained, mixed with water, harden, the most logical thing would be to think that Margarito might not have noticed it because he was not sweating, therefore, the miscellany of these substances could not engage in any type of reaction without any type of liquid
How can he feel anything strange in his hands if these compounds were yet to harden?
Now, if one asks a chemist, He would tell you that only under certain circumstances it might generate this hypothesis. That is to say, that there is no certainty in which the hand wraps would have hardened.
This is one of many other opinions that have been mentioned since this incident happened, not only in the media, but between the fans, trainers and boxers. There is a large number of people that don?t believe in the innocence of the Mexican boxer Antonio Margarito, but as he himself says: ?if they don?t believe me, what more can I tell them?
I very much respect the work of both journalists, and I am a fan of Their program ? A los Golpes, but when one falls down in the field of speculation, one should at least give logical opinions.
After reading this article, I come to the conclusion that Mr. Rubio is right. Regardless of the scandals and accusations that Margarito wore illegal hand wraps etc., in our opinion, It was impossible that the Mexican fighter knew before hand. When Margarito came before the California State Athletic Commission to plead his case, He went on to say that he was unaware of any illegal substance and could have only known if the compounds would have mixed and turn into what ever everyone says. Logical explanation!
