‘PacMan’ on full throttle for Morales fight

Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao on Friday said he is undergoing rigorous training at Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, California, as he braces for the rematch against Mexican Erik Morales next month.

In a telephone interview with DZMM, the boxing icon called “PacMan” by Filipinos and foreigners alike said has started his daily training earlier than usual.

“Grabe, sa umaga takbo ako paakyat [ng] bundok. Tapos sa hapon, tatlong oras ang training ko, 1 o’clock mag-umpisa hanggang 4 o’clock (I run up the mountain in the morning and in the afternoon, I undergo three hours more of training from one o’clock to four o’clock),” Pacquiao told DZMM.

The pugilist from General Santos also said he is being kept busy by three sparring partners assigned for the training.

Pacquiao said the intensive training is necessary because he considers the January rematch against Morales the fight of his life. He lost to Morales in their match on March 19 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

For the fight on January 21 (January 22 in Manila), Pacquiao said he will use Cleto Reyes gloves from Mexico, the same brand used by Morales during their previous outing.

“Mas maliit kasi [ito] medyo maliit kasi ang Cleto Reyes at medyo malambot ang foam niya (This is smaller and the foam is softer),” he said.

The much-awaited rematch between Pacquiao and Morales at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas will be aired live over ABS-CBN and simulcast over DZMM.
