The seven-division world champion has arrived back on American soil to launch his press tour. Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito, Nov. 13, has both supporters and detractors and a few hypocrites lagging around as well. So, why is Manny Pacquiao being targeted by some of these hypocrites? As I said in a previous article, it can be lonely at the top.
Pacquiao has done absolutely nothing wrong to anyone, yet sometimes it’s like he wears a bull eye on his back. There are a few writers that have nothing positive to say, so they go to the hate card and spew garbage. There are a selective few writers that do not have the ability to access Pacquiao, so instead of appreciating those who do, they call them “groupie writers, and fan-boys.” An 11-year-old child would do something like this. It’s actually pretty amazing when you think about grown 40-year-old men behaving this way.
One writer blamed Manny Pacquiao for ruining boxing. Another one called Pacquiao “flea infested” both of which implying that Manny need not fight Margarito. True enough, Margarito cheated, and in this writers opinion he should be banned for life. Since he is not banned for life, and the Texas commission granted him a license to fight, the blame should not be placed upon Manny Pacquiao’s shoulders.
On the contrary, those who support Pacquiao REALLY support him. His legions of fans that span the globe are all just excited that their main man is back. Sure, most of us — including Manny — wanted the big fight vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. Things didn’t go as planned in that fight, so Arum chose to bring in the man who was caught turning his hands into cement.
I am in agreement (even with the hypocrite writer who is now back peddling), on Margarito being a horrible choice to give this opportunity to. I am, however, in disagreement with the blame that is being placed on Manny Pacquiao.
Manny Pacquiao is a fighter and a businessman. He will fight whoever they put in front of him, and then he will go deposit his check. Manny wanted Mayweather, but Mayweather for whatever reasons did not want to fight. Arum then brought in Margarito, so Manny will fight him. End of story…
Mississippians for the most part do not want Margarito to be given this opportunity. The fans that were at the Desoto Civic Center, in Southaven, MS had plenty to say about Margarito. Most agreed that the guy should be banned for life. Mississippians are very forgiving people, but what Margarito did could have killed someone.
Margarito is not banned for life, so we now have to live with it. Pacquiao will square off against the man who got caught cheating on November 13. The fight is a go, so the only thing we can do now is cover it, and watch it.
