Couture destroys pathetic Toney in 2 minutes
James Toney talked the talk but couldn’t even come close to walking the walk, submitting to Randy Couture just two minutes into his MMA debut. MMA fans will calls this a victory for their sport over boxing, but all we really learned from this farce is that Toney has little pride when it comes to cashing in on his legacy. Toney turned up for the UFC weighing 237 pounds, tied for his career boxing high, and twenty pounds more than he weighed for a tune-up bout against Matthew Greer last year. As soon as the fight started, the 47-year old Couture immediately took down Toney by shooting for his legs. It was immediately and painfully obvious Toney had no idea how to defend himself and Couture might as well have been fighting a rag doll, because he could do whatever he wanted to Toney. Couture pummeled Toney for a while while trying to get in position for a choke, and on the second attempt, Couture sunk the choke in, causing the bloodied Toney to tap out. Congratulations to Randy Couture, MMA’s equivalent to Evander Holyfield, and shame on James Phoney for putting forth such minimal effort when he knew boxing fans were pulling for him to represent the sport.
