A PUERTO Rican based in New York is the leading candidate as new trainer of International Boxing Federation (IBF) superbantam king Manny Pacquiao following the decision of American Freddie Roach to sever ties with the Filipino champ.
New York-based Lenny de Jesus is said to be the main candidate to take over from Roach, the Inquirer learned Saturday from a reliable source.
Roach, who took care of whipping up Pacquiao into shape in his last four fights in the US, resigned early in the week, saying he’s not happy with the way the Filipino’s career is being managed and that some members of Team Pacquiao have cheated him of his 10-percent trainer’s fee.
“What they have said to me is that I am the first one on that list, although they are also considering Buddy McGirt,” De Jesus said Saturday in an interview with Jorge Perez of El Nuevo Dia publication in his residence in New York.
