IF Top Rank chief promoter Bob Arum is to be believed, the news of Floyd Mayweather Jr. being offered to fight in Dubai is ?a joke.?
Michael Marley, writing for boxing site Examiner.com, reported that he talked with Arum on Wednesday and quoted the Top Rank promoter as saying that ?Mayweather?s Dubai fight offer was so funny, you would laugh your ass off.?
Arum was referring to recent news that Mayweather Jr. told gossip and celebrity maven Robin Leach that ?he would soon be announcing his next fight date and opponent and that the site would be not the sands of Clark County, Nevada, but those of Dubai.?
Arum and his wife Lovee are vacationing in Italy when Marley reached the promoter via overseas call.
?I?ve got no clue on that,? Marley quoted Arum as saying., ?But I think I know who is making this offer to Mayweather and, if you knew, you would be laughing your ass off.?
Arum, though, did not reveal to Marley who he was referring to as the one who made the offer. But the popular boxing writer who made the trip to Sarangani during the elections to chronicle Pacquiao?s congressional bid, said that ?the name of Murad Muhammad (Pacquiao?s former promoter) came quickly to my alleged mind.?
Marley also tried to verify if the news about Don King extending a ?verbal olive branch? to Mayweather adviser Al Haymon and Golden Boy?s Richie Rich Schaefer in a bid to promote the undefeated boxer, was true.
