In the news: Pavlik off to Texas? Maidana in action, Marquez-Katsidis and more

It has been an eventful week in terms of action outside of the squared circle. From rumors of Kelly Pavlik heading to Texas for his next fight, Marcos Maidana returning to the ring, Juan Manuel Marquez? future as well as the surrounding developments regarding the November 13th Manny Pacquiao-Antonio Margarito clash, there is much to discuss.

Pavlik is coming off of a disappointing April loss to Sergio Martinez in which he lost a decision after seeing the Argentinean sweep the championship rounds. Pavlik is now rumored to be returning on the November 13th Manny Pacquiao-Antonio Margarito undercard in Dallas, Texas against an opponent to be named, likely at a catch weight of 164 pounds.

Marcos Maidana returns to action this weekend as he will attempt to defend his interim WBA Jr. Welterweight crown against former champion DeMarcus Corley, who has been in the ring with everyone imaginable during his 14-plus year career. On the line for Maidana is a potential December date with WBA kingpin Amir Khan. The Maidana-Corley bout takes at the Estadio Luna Park in Buenos Aires.

Miguel Cotto has been in the news because of a reported injury to his right shoulder which required surgery. There were whispers that the WBA Jr. Middleweight champion might not have been able to begin training for his proposed December 4th clash with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. until November but Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is confident that the Puerto Rican will have ample time to get in shape and that the fight will push through.
