During a recent radio interview, Bernard Hopkins discussed James Toney’s upcoming debut in the UFC. This coming Saturday, the former three division champion will face veteran Randy Couture, still considered one of the best fighters in MMA. Hopkins appears confident that Toney will “get his ass kicked.”
Hopkins is not going to single out Toney. He doesn’t care who the boxer is, including himself. If Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Manny Pacquaio made a decision to face one of the top fighters in MMA, under their rules, Hopkins says they would get beaten just like Toney will on Saturday.
“James Toney is James Toney in boxing. You gotta bow down to that, that’s the man,” said Hopkins. “Whether it’s old James Toney or new James Toney, his record speaks for himself. He’s done well, he’s done more than well in boxing.”
“But When you step out into a situation where, against a legend too in his own sport. I believe, and I’ll go on the record, that if the best M M A guy or U F C guy goes up against the best boxer in the world in their arena, in their arena [the boxer] gets their ass kicked. I don’t care who it is, whether Floyd, Pacquiao, Bernard Hopkins, they get they ass kicked. That is not what we do.”
