NEWARK–Blondes do have more fun, I learned at ringside Saturday night.
And the object of their affection (“Polska Power”) at the Prudential Center, Tomasz Adamek, may have just won the Klitschko Brothers Lottery.
Adamek again packed the temporary home of the Brooklyn-bound NBA Nets with 10,000 plus fans and they seemed to be all clad in national colors of red and white.
I’m repeatedly amazed at the young-skewing crowd of supporters Ademak attracts. No fighter has drawn so many wives and girlfriends to a boxing arena since Oscar de la Hoya was pulling in frenzied females wherever he fought.
Adamek’s victory over Michael Grant was nothing to write back to Gdansk about but he got the job done and has to go on the short list of future KBros. foes.
Let’s face it, the KBros. are desperate for cannon fodder although Vitali, the better banger of the two Ukrainian giants, may find Shannon Briggs to be a sticky wicket Oct. 16 in Hambug.
Briggs has the power to turn VK into hamburger and can’t be discounted at any time from the bell going from ding to dong.
But back to Adamek, who certainly knows to charm the media and public a lot better than that old grouch “Foul Pole” Andrew Golota ever did.
Just when veteran promoter Kathy Duva needed a lifeline to stay in business, along came a partnership with Ziggy Promotions and ticketseller supreme Adamek.
By outlasting the always tentative underachieving 6-7 giant Grant, a hoopster who sort of reuluctantly became a fighter, Adamek did enough to earn the unanimous decision but, more importantly, he was not so impressive that he might scare off either WK or VK.
Here’s hoping the affable Adamek, Ziggy and Duva cash in before either of the “Bromance Brothers” retire.
