Marco Antonio Barrera may be nearing the end of the line as a fighter.
Barrera, 29, nearly quit the ring after losing twice to Junior Jones in 1997. He stayed away from the gym for almost a year, working in his father’s construction company, attending classes at the University of Mexico City, and playing tennis and soccer.
Last year, he hurt his ribs sparring and stayed idle for eight weeks for the injury to heal. He once banged up his right hand and underwent a long therapy instead of going under the knife.
