The story in pictures: Guillermo Rigondeaux, Marco Huck and Tomasz Adamek score wins

On Saturday, August 21st three notable fighters scored victories at vastly different points in their careers.

Gold medalist Guillermo Rigondeaux scored a sixth round knockout over Jose Angel Beranza in Baja California, Mexico to improve his record to 6-0 with 5 knockouts. The 29-year old has been creating a lot of buzz since defecting from his native Cuba and his team will likely be placing him on the fast track to a hopeful title shot, given that time is of the essence in his career.

Rigondeaux fought many of his early bouts near the Miami, Florida area and later would hook up with trainer Freddie Roach to put in some work at the trainer?s Wild Card Gym. The two men have since gone their separate ways with Ronnie Shields reportedly now at the helms of the standout fighter.

WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck scored a dominating 5th round stoppage over American Matt Godfrey in Thuringen, Germany for the 4th defense of his title. Godfrey was initially scheduled to meet IBF champion Steve Cunningham in Las Vegas, Nevada in March but the fight fell apart because of a fallout between promoter Don King and ESPN while the Rhode Island fighter began eyeing other options.

Huck reportedly smothered his 29-year old foe from the opening bell, leaving him little room to breathe. The German-based fighter scored a knockdown in the second and two in the fifth before ending things moments later. Afterwards Godfrey?s trainer John Scully expressed his disappointment, stating ?What can I say? Marco Huck is a very strong individual, very determined.?

And last but not least former light heavyweight and cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek won yet another bout in the heavyweight division in defeating former contender Michael Grant by way of unanimous decision in Newark, New Jersey. The fight was disappointing in terms of excitement and fought relatively at a slow pace.

Adamek controlled the action with his greater work rate and boxing ability but tired late as an onrushing Grant attempted to come on. The Polish fighter held on to win a decision by scores of 118-111, 118-111 and 117-111.
