WBC #1 jr flyweight Juanito Rubillar dominated veteran Acasio Simbajon in their 10-round fight Sunday night in the main event of promoter Gabriel Elorde Jr’s card at San Dionisio, Paranaque City. The three judges awarded a lopsided unanimous decision with 99-92, 99-92 and 100-90 decision all in favor of Rubillar, who improved to 36-9-7 with 14 KO. Rubillar previously had a technical draw and a victory against Simbajon, who fell to 11-32-5.
“I expected the fight would go this way because he’s a veteran and knows to protect himself from a knockout punch,” said Rubillar, who enjoys the top ranking position under fellow Filipino and current WBC light flyweight king Brian Filipino-Hawaiian Punch Viloria.
In the preliminary bouts in the card covered by the Kamao sa Kamao boxing program for its 5-6 pm time slot every Sunday over NBN Channel 4, all of Rubillars stablemates under the guidance of Elorde were also victorious.
Featherweights Rey Labao and Romeo Lucenara, super featherweight Benny Palen, and super bantamweigths Noel Basto, Hilsan Berba and Raymond Sermona all remains undefeated.
Labao dominated Felix Manalansan over 8 rounds while Lucenara stopped Edward Hanap at 2:53 of the third. Palen improved to 3-0 with 3 knockouts when he knockout Ruel Santos at 1:38 of the second. Their first fight resulted in first round stoppage win of Palen in August. Basto dispatched Ian dela Pena at 1:56 of the 4th and final round after Berba earned a unanimous decision in 4 rounds against Elmer Marcelino and Sermona annihilated Ramil Dumpang at 1:25 of the opening round.
Minimumweight Marlo Villamor and light flyweight RJ Iringan also improved their records with victories against Jun Gumatay and Noah Isidro respectively.
