MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine boxing team will train at the Undisputed Gym in San Carlos City, California, the same gym where Nonito Donaire Jr. prepared his route to fame.
The development came after Manny Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach of the Wild Card Gym begged off because he will train Julio Cesar Chavez for a September fight.
?Nonito said he felt very strong after training at that facility,? said Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines executive director Ed Picson at the PSA Forum at the Shakey?s UN Avenue in Manila.
RP standouts Josie Gabuco, Alice Kate Aparri, Annie Albania, Nesty Petecio, brothers Victorio and Rey Saludar, Gerson Nietes, Charley Suarez, Recky Gulay, Joegin Ladon and Delfin Boholst will also train at the University of San Francisco and the Eddie Heredia Gym in Los Angeles.
The US training camp will be important for both Gabuco and Aparri as they try to make the team for the Women?s World Championship in Bridgeport, Barbados, in September.
