‘Schaefer ripping legends King, Arum like high school kid calling out LeBron James’

Leave it Hollywood Dan Goossen, star of stage, screen and the prize ring, to come up with the line of the week when it comes to Golden Boy Richie Rich Schaefer insulting Hall Of Fame promoters Bob Arum and Don King.

?That’s like some high school kid calling out LeBron James,? Goossen cracked while speaking to AOL Fanhouse’s respected scribe, Lem ?The Baltimore Gem? Satterfield.

Jeez Louise, I hope the Swiss banker doesn’t report the Head Goose to Floyd Mayweather’s always publicly silent adviser Al Haymon for that stinging riposte.

Now, and here’s a shocker, I’m going to defend Schaefer’s Sunday blast on ?B Rex? meaning the 79 to be in December Arum and ?D Rex? meaning the 79 in 10 days King.

All that goobledygook Herr Schaefer spouted, by the way in a phone call he initiated to Satterfield and not a blast the reporter solicited, reads poorly, especially the parts where the Golden Guy questions what the 32 year old Mayweather?a grown ass man in anyone’s book?is doing to his public image by associating with King.

Unforutnately, and I know the European born promoter didn’t intend this, it reads like thinly veiled racism with the sniping at King’s remark that he better understands ?Money May? as they both are fluent in what DK called ?ghettoese.?

If Schaefer or any other reasonable person made the reasonable statement that, let’s say, Mexico’s highly touted prospect Saul ?Canela? Alvarez is quite comfortable with Oscar de la Hoya as both are fighters and can speak to each other in Spanish, would anyone attack the speaker for saying so?

At least Schaefer was smart enough not to use the ?e? word meaning the demeaning term, ebonics.

How can Schaefer, who left the controversial and scandal plagued UBS Bank, tear into promotional free agent Mayweather for associating with another fight promoter especially one as accomplished as King.

It’s fine for Schaefer to brag about the corporate sponsors GBP has latched onto in recent years but let me know when they promote a superstar not named Oscar or when they have handled icons such as Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali, Roberto Duran and Julio Cesar Chavez like King has over the decades.

The lingering question, no matter whether Floyd joins up with King or not, is why didn’t Golden Boy ever induce the undefeated fighter into inking a contract?

Adviser Haymon has Mayweather on paper, you can bet your bippy on that. (Now, look Richie, I said bippy and not buppy.)

King got what he wanted out of his verbal blast against Golden Boy, an emotional, visceral reaction which paints the Goldens as though they are on the defensive.

Has Schaefer lost the plot completely? His time would be better spent trying to lure Mayweather back into the Golden tent and not prattling about his elderly competitors being dinosaurs.

The dinosaurs became extinct and if we can all agree on anything in boxing, it’s that with Arum controlling Manny Pacquiao and King romancing Mayweather, the two nearly octogenarians are far from rigor mortis.

And with King and Arum on one side, the same side for a chance, and Schaefer fuming on the other, can anyone remind me how the Boxing Promoters Association was going to bring peace, harmony and brotherhood to this business?
