There has been another turn in the development to get Antonio Margarito licensed before he faces Manny Pacquiao on November 13th. Margarito was supposed to have gone back before the California State Athletic Commission but he was told that unless he dropped his lawsuit against them, they wouldn?t even hear his case. Well, the word is that the ABC isn?t too happy with that tact and now, other jurisdictions are now very interested in hearing Margarito and his representatives out.
One well placed source says that if Nevada/Las Vegas keeps dragging their feet, there is actually a pretty good chance that this fight lands in Dallas at Cowboys Stadium, where Pacquiao beat Joshua Clottey back in March. Bottom line, this fight is big business and Jerry Jones wants to be in the Pacquiao business.
We?ll see where this goes.
– I asked Bob Arum today if the August 28th fight between Ivan Calderon and Giovanni Segura was going to be on pay-per-view, he stated quite loudly that he wasn?t,”Going to touch that fight with a ten foot pole!!!”
The reason?
Well, it seems that Segura has had some immigration issues and has been caught twice crossing the border illegaly. And at last check, Puerto Rico is part of the United States. Good luck getting him there without any hassles. Also, his trainer Javier Capetillo, who still works with him in Mexico during his fights, it?s not clear if he would be able to work the corner on the island.
I don?t know about you, but I was quite surprised when this fight was announced, given that Segura had an August 7th date on ?Top Rank Live? already lined up.
