Marco Antonio Barrera who suffered his worst loss as a boxer to IBF Jr. featherweight champion, Manny Pacquiao is considering a rematch with the Philippine boxer.
“I am sure that I can recover my place. I talk with Oscar de la Hoya [Barrera’s promoter] through the phone and we’ll meet in January,” the Mexican Barrera told the online edition of Mexico’s oldest and most respected sports newspaper.
“The idea is to do a fight, and subsequently to seek the big bouts. It depends on Oscar if he can help me seek revenge against the Filipino. He told me that I could count on it.”
Barrera also mentioned that would have a tune-up 10-round bout in March before preparing for a rematch with Pacquiao.
Pacquiao (38-2-1, 30 KOs) stopped Barrera in the final seconds of the 11th round when Barrera’s brother and cornerman Jorge stopped the fight.
Barrera (57-4-1) said he would be back in the gym in mid-January after a brief vacation.
The prospect of a rematch will depend on the result of an upcoming fight between Pacquiao and dual champion Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico, either in the last week of March or in early April.
