C.B. Manalastas, Manila: Doesn?t matter who among them comes out, but Mayweather is easily the best option to prove once and for all if Pacquiao is really the best.
Ed Ledesma, Iloilo City: Me thinks Manny has to content himself with fighting lesser gods while Floyd Jr. takes his own sweet time deciding whether he?s black or yellow.
It?s Mayweather or bust
Abelardo Abilay, Laguna: There is nobody but Mayweather who can cap the boxing career of Manny Pacquiao. Floyd is the last feather that Manny can add to his cap. If the fight does not push through, it would be best for our boxing hero to rest on his laurels. Manny must remember that his main purpose for fighting is not money but to put the Filipino flag on the international boxing map, which he has achieved. Pacquiao is already a big hero and champion with or without Mayweather.
Dennis Acop, Baguio City: There is only one name left for Manny Pacquiao to fight and then he can retire as the greatest boxer of all time. That name is Floyd Mayweather Jr. If the two meet, Pacquiao will knock the hell out of Floyd and Floyd knows that only too well. Even amateurs can tell the difference between the Pacman?s power and speed compared to Mayweather?s. Pacquiao is not only fast and powerful, he has absolutely no fear. I have never seen him run from a fight, not like Mayweather is doing. On the other hand, Mayweather could be stacking up the odds prior to the mega fight for a bigger purse. Makes sense. However, there is also a limit to such strategizing before people start thinking that Mayweather is simply too afraid to face the Pacman, period. Any other opponent is just a waste of time for Pacquiao.
Pedro Alagano Sr., Vigan: It?s Mayweather or nothing. With his fame and fortune, Pacquiao already has the luxury of focusing on his new career, and if necessary, of enrolling at the UP Open University to take up Political Science/ Law or any course relevant to his job. This will enhance his image as a lawmaker so that he need not be looked down upon by critics as a mere boxer. Who knows? He may even become President someday.
Dennis Montealto, Mandaluyong City: Other names are pipsqueak if it would not be the braggart Floyd Mayweather Jr. who is fighting tooth and nail just to avoid a face-off with Manny lest it tarnish his record. Should that day materialize, the world will be on standstill, to exaggerate the least.
Elmo Cruz, Manila: A Pacman-Mayweather bout would be the highest gate and ads grosser if only Manny Pacquiao did not join politics and win a congressional seat. As of now, even Bob Arum is tentative about getting Manny to climb up the ring as he is afraid that Manny could hardly concentrate on his boxing because of the heavy load on his shoulder as a legislator. Though money is money in any language, keeping the championship belt until retirement is the treasure every boxer most wants.
Lucas Banzon Madamba, USA: I think Mayweather would be the best one among the crop to battle it out with Pacquiao and make boxing history. Pacquiao should also heed the great challenge of his political career now that he is the congressman of Sarangani. He has to start developing Sarangani, which is his area of jurisdiction.
Miguelito Herrera, Cabanatuan City: Anyone of them is a worthy opponent of Pacquiao like Cotto or Margarito but the sporting world is looking forward to a Pacquiao-Mayweather bout. However, it seems that Floyd is playing hard to get or if we believe the other version of his story, he reportedly has legal woes to settle including Pacquiao suing members of the Mayweather camp for insinuating that Manny uses performance-enhancing drugs.
Mayweather will be boring
J.R. Mondonedo Jr., Para?aque City: Well, since Mayweather seems to be a scared-y cat and does not want to blemish his undefeated record, a fight with Cotto would be good because if Pacquiao wins, he will have won a record eight titles in eight different divisions. I think Cotto will be at his best at a heavier weight and wouldn?t want to lose for the second time to Pacquiao. A fight with Margarito will also be good because he is a non-stop fighter and an exciting one, too. But with Mayweather, he will be just running around the ring, and that will be a boring fight for Pacman.
Jesus Mendoza, Pangasinan: Either Cotto or Margarito may prove to be the more exciting, though not necessarily better, opponent for Pacquiao. Floyd will just bore the audience to death.
Hatton-Pacquiao would be a brawl
Leonard Villa, Batac City: They are just unworthy filler-opponents to Pacquiao. Why not a Ricky Hatton-Manny Pacquiao rematch? It would be a brawl, a very exciting fight.
Many boxers are dying to fight him
Ryan Pahimulin, Rizal: Many boxers are dying for a fight with Pacman because of the prestige and big money that goes with it.
Rose Leobrera, Manila: Whoever they are, I know they would make a good match for Pacman. Pacman still can?t be sure of the outcome. Though he is a brilliant boxer, an accidental punch can still land on him. Isa pa, promoters really want to earn a fortune because they know that Pacman is a crowd-drawer, kaya different names sprout up for publicity gimmicks.
He should focus on his job as legislator
Alexander Raquepo, Ilocos Sur: I am not particularly interested about who Manny?s next opponent will be. I am more interested in what Manny will accomplish as a new legislator.
Robert Young Jr., San Juan: What names? Pacquiao should take a leave from his fights because he ran and won as representative of Sarangani like other celebrities who also won in the election. Aren?t they supposed to be full-time legislators? Taxpayers spend billions on their salary, pork barrel, travel allowances and others. If they can?t be full-time on their job, they might as well resign from their positions and concentrate full-time on fighting, making movies or appearing on TV.
Germi Sison, Cabanatuan City: Whatever the names are of his supposed next opponent great or not-so-great, crowd drawer or not is now immaterial. It is now time for Manny Pacquiao to concentrate on his new field of endeavor that needs his full and undivided attention, being a neophyte legislator. He did not learn boxing overnight, and neither will he parliamentary procedures that require analysis and strategies different from boxing. If he will craft laws and box at the same time, he and the Filipino people may end up losers in both fields. He already has fame and fortune; aspiring for greater glory may end up in tragedy.
Jim Veneracion, Naga City: If it will not be Mayweather, then Pacquiao might as well retire and focus on being a solon. Cotto and Margarito would not sell as well.
Ignacio Anacta, Metro Manila: I believe that Manny Pacquiao has two to three fights left, although he has nothing left to prove. He is simply the best. Having been elected congressman, that?s where he should concentrate. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is so afraid to fight Manny these days as he knows he will be shamefully knocked out. He is buying time until Manny gets older and slower, which is the same tactic he did with Shane Mosley. Maybe it?s time for Manny to retire from boxing, so he can instead help P-Noy make our country a better nation.
Edwin Chinel Monares, Rizal: The greatest opponent that Manny Pacquiao must beat is our country?s rotten system of governance. I am wishing him well to slug it out in the House of Representatives with the most trained crooks with rules set aside by an entrenched political power base.
Desuel Pardo, Mandaluyong City: No more opponent is necessary to prove that Manny Pacquiao is the best boxing champion of this decade. He is the only boxer who ever held a championship belt in seven weight divisions and that is enough proof of his being the greatest boxer of all time. Mayweather obviously chickened out facing him many times because he is afraid that his clean winning record will be tainted. On the other hand, Manny Pacquiao has to prove his worth, no longer in boxing, but in politics, which he joined despite many valid counsels against it from well-meaning friends. I am not a congressman nor a boxer but I see clearly that these two endeavors could not be done successfully at the same time.
He has nothing left to prove
Jun Montebon, Para?aque City: I think Manny Pacquiao has nothing more to prove, being already a world champion in seven different weight divisions.
Lydia Reyes, Bataan: I?m no longer interested in his boxing career. I want him to retire while at his peak.
Whoever it is will surely suffer defeat
Luisito Vallo, Pangasinan: I?m disappointed that Floyd Mayweather is dodging the Pacman but Margarito and Cotto would surely make worthy opponents in the ring. But whoever gets to bang gloves with Manny would surely suffer defeat.
Jose Fabello Jr., Cagayan de Oro City: Whoever will be the next Pacquiao opponent will be in for a punishment that he will not forget in his boxing career, though he will earn good money for trying.
Roger Caravana, Bulacan: The names being tossed as Manny Pacquiao?s next are no pushovers but big names in their categories.
Ella Arenas, Pangasinan: Whoever they present as Pacquiao?s next opponent will stil; remain an underdog because Pacman will always be a big threat to them. Remember, in boxing, he is the world?s No. 1.
Col Ben Paguirigan Jr., Ret., Zamboanga City: Any boxer within his weight class should be someone to reckon with. Manny Pacquiao should not take them for granted, and demolish them to the hilt.
Renato Taylan, Ilocos Norte: None of these names seem to glow as close and as bright as Pacquiao?s star. He may be swallowed by unknown black holes without his knowing.
How about Mosley or Marquez?
Ric Vergara, Calamba: None of them will beat Manny. If Mayweather refuses, Shane Mosley or Marquez will be a good match.
M. Sunico, Caloocan City: Pacman ought to fight Shane Mosley and beat him to show that Mayweather has no sting at all. Mayweather is the greatest dodger of all time. He comes out to fight boxers he can easily beat as if his record is unblemished with drug use and trash talks.
Cotto or Margarito should be exciting
Ishmael Q. Calata, Para?aque City: Mayweather is still the most awaited opponent of Manny Pacquiao. Yung pagpapakipot ni mayabang ay nagdaragdag ng interest ng mga aficionado sa boxing. But if he is truly afraid to fight Pacman, then either Cotto or Margarito would give us still an entertaining battle in the ring when either is chosen to face our man. Cotto would now prepare well for the rematch while Pacquiao may be deviated from training by his attendance in Congress, musing on what he can do as a legislator.
Romeo Caubat, Masbate: Either Cotto or Margarito are worthy/dangerous opponents. With Cotto, Pacquiao can aim to achieve an 8th world title in eight different weight divisions.
Eufrocino Linsangan, Isabela: Cotto and even Margarito will kiss the canvass fighting the Pacman at 147 lb., but at 154 lbs., it will be the other way around. That would be too heavy for Manny.
Cotto will be boring
Paul Montejar, Metro Manila: Margarito is the better choice. A repeat for Cotto will be boring.
Settle the issue of who is pound-for-pound king
Cris Rivera, Rizal: To settle the score as to who is the real pound-for-pound king, and pay-per-view king, it must be Pacquiao vs Mayweather.
June Deoferio, Cavite: Floyd Mayweather is the best next opponent for Manny Pacquiao that many people around the world are eager to watch in order to know who between them is the best boxer.
Felix Ramento, USA: Manny?s stature tells me that it has got to be Mayweather or none at all. Fighting the likes of Cotto, Margarito, or Berto at this stage of his career would make him appear like a mercenary.
Deo Durante, Camarines Sur: We are in a long wait for Mayweather as the next opponent of Manny so we could see who is the better fighter between the two.
Mayweather is a chicken
Rodolfo Talledo, Angeles City: They won?t do a super-fight. Mayweather simply is afraid of Manny and has run out of excuses. This single blot in his career disparages his dream of greatness.
Edwin Castillo, Tanauan City: They are worthy opponents except for Pretty Boy. It seems that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is chicken feathers when it comes to Pacman.
Ricardo Tolentino, Laoag City: The names lined up for Pacquiao?s next fight don?t appeal as much as a mega fight with Mayweather. Unfortunately, the top contender is a certified coward.
Won?t be a walk in the park for Manny
Rudy Tagimacruz, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon: The boxers being tossed about as Manny Pacquiao?s next opponents are legends in the ring. Fighting any of them won?t be a walk in the park for Manny.
