How bad do the fans of Manny Pacquiao want Floyd Mayweather to sign that contract? Really bad. But there’s an old saying that may apply here, “Be careful what you wish for because you may just get it.” Let us shoot straight here for a few minutes. Love him or hate him, Floyd Mayweather Jr is not only just a good fighter, he is a great fighter. The guy has never been defeated, and in his most recent victory over Shane Mosley, he made a sure fire first ballot hall of famer look like an amateur. Floyd is straight up great, and if anyone believes that Manny Pacquiao will just carve through him like he’s done to his previous opponents, the have another thing coming.

We all know how good Manny is, the proof is in the pudding. We all know that he’s won 7 titles in as man weight divisions. We all know of his inspiring story coming from nothing to having everything. Pacquiao is legend, and already has his spot in boxing’s hall of fame soon after he retires. With all of that said, a victory over Floyd Mayweather Jr will not be easy.
The recent deadline set forth by Top Rank head Bob Arum has come and gone. Where was Mayweather? He was spending time with his family, and playing basketball with a youth league. Mayweather could care less about some deadline. He knows that Arum needs him in order to maximize his earnings. Floyd has everyone right where he wants them right now.
This past weekend in Southaven, Mississippi this writer was on the Arum press conference at 2 AM from my hotel room. I just got back to the room from the Showtime fights that featured Fernando Guerrero and Ishe Smith. During that fight I was ringside talking to a few of the Showtime staff about the whole Pacquiao Vs. Mayweather ordeal. I even asked some of the Mississippi fans how they felt about it. Most of the feedback was positive. They want to see the fight, but they were growing tired of the wait. The press conference went pretty much as I had expected it would.
My sources have been telling me for quite sometime now that the fight is not a done deal. Despite what some of you may have read on a few boxing sites, the fight was never done. All of this talk of signatures on finalized contracts was bad journalism, and or sensationalized trumped up headlines with no sources to back anything up.
The time will come and this fight will happen. It will happen soon enough, but probably not until early next year sometime. Floyd will eventually end up fighting Manny Pacquiao. It will probably be a great fight, and one of the two men will end up victorious. It’s a winnable fight for both men, it’s a fight that the boxing fans deserve to see.
