Power-punching Benedict Suico’s heavy bombs were too much for Nonong Devilleres in their abbreviated bout Sunday night at the Tisa Sports Complex.
The youthful Suico scored a sixth-round knockout over the tough Devilleres in the main event of the RWS International boxing promotion.
The knockout came at the 1:35 of the sixth, when Devilleres tried to turn his back on Suico after he was hit with several body and head shots.
Suico, of Mandaue City, dropped a straight on Devilleres’ jaw that sent him to the canvas for the second time. Referee Teddy Alivio counted him out of the contest.
In the fifth round, Suico connected with a well-timed straight on Devilleres’ chin, sending the Cagayan de Oro native on the canvas for the first time.
Momentum
Devilleres earlier connected with an uppercut to the jaw. Suico survived the ordeal and got the momentum back going to the fifth round.
In the other 10-rounder fight, Ping Ping Tepura scored a unanimous decision win over Sherwin Manatad highlighted by a ninth-round knockdown.
Bonnie Maido got very lucky as he scored a split decision win over Wine Bartiquil after six rounds.
The promotion, which was supported by and Tisa Brgy. Captain Eddie Cabulao, was sponsored by Mayor Tomas Osme?a, through Councilor Yayoy Alcoseba.
