Deadline? What deadline? Floyd Mayweather Jr doesn’t bow down to some deadline. Arum needs Mayweather to maximize his earnings. The Manny Pacquiao Vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr fight will happen, just not on Arum’s time.
Despite the done deal headlines that a few so called boxing site’s have reported, this fight was never done and no so called finalized contracts were waiting to be signed. Mayweather decides when the fight is done and despite what some may think, he’s not decided on when the time is right. Even Bob Arum said during his 2 AM press conference that Floyd should not be criticized for this. Floyd probably has a good reason for not signing a contract yet.
Floyd’s trainer Roger has legal issues and is staring down at some jail time. Floyd has to consider that before signing on to fight a guy like Manny Pacquiao. Floyd, according to my sources, doesn’t want to pay 40 percent of taxes on 40 million dollars in 2010.
Mayweather has the whole boxing world right in the palm of his hand. Everyone wants to see him fight Pacquiao. The Filipino fans want Floyd’s head on a silver platter. Floyd’s fans want him to shut up the Filipino fans. HBO is foaming at the mouth for this fight, and the American boxing fans are dying to see this fight. Floyd is smiling and biding his time.
When I was in Southaven, Mississippi, I ran into Al Haymon sidekick Sam Watson. I asked him, “Sam is Floyd going to sign this darn contract?” Sam smiled and simply said, “He will sign it.” Also, while attending last Friday’s Showbox event in at the Desoto Civic Center, in Southaven, Mississippi, I ran into former light heavyweight world champion Antonio Tarver. He also feels as if the fight will happen. So this is not a matter of IF, it’s a matter of WHEN.

I asked a few of the fans in attendance Friday in Southaven, MS what their thoughts were on Floyd Vs. Manny. I talked to John Stems of Tunica, MS if he thought this fight will ever go down, “Man I hope so. I hope for the sport of boxing this fight will go down. I am a Pacquiao fan, and I just want him to beat the crap out of Floyd.’
Kelvin Jones of Tupelo, MS supports Mayweather, “Floyd will sign when Floyd feels like signing. He does his own thing, he doesn’t do things that don’t make sense for him.”
Nobody works the media, and plays with the minds of the boxing public better than Floyd Mayweather Jr. He’s got everyone worked up and foaming at the mouth for this fight. More than likely Pacquiao will fight Cotto or Margarito (unfortunately) on November 13th. Mayweather will come around in early 2011 and we will get to see the two best in the world go at it.
