Compare a fight where one fighter is the total aggressor while the other runs around the ring trying not to get hit. Another fight has two aggressive warriors going toe to toe in every round until one of them crashes down bloodied and unconscious. Which fight would be worth watching?
I agree with most boxing fans? point of view that Pac-Money would make the biggest fight in history and will resolve all questions about pound for pound supremacy. But it takes two to tango and it takes two to make the fight happen. It is obvious that Pacquiao wants the fight while Floyd does not want a piece of Pacman. The excuses of Floyd will develop into an eternal litany but will stop at the same dead-end, he does not want to fight Pacquiao.
I don?t care what his reasons are for avoiding Pacquiao, the thing is, he is not the only formidable opponent for the Filipino Champion. In fact, there are a lot of tougher guys out there. And objectively, the best fight out there would be against the man who beat Miguel Cotto though that win became questionable after the plaster issue exploded costing Margarito his Vegas fighting license. The common denominator here is that both the Pacman and the Tijuana Tornado knocked out the Boricuan Bomber. Yes, it will be a battle of Cotto?s Daddies.
This match would be the toughest one for Pacquiao. All physical advantages favor Margarito, but Pacquiao has the usual speed advantage. Both fighters are known for their punching power. Both warriors are famous for their relentless aggression. The fight will be a definite bloodbath.
As I understand it, the reason why we boxing fans are dying to see Pacquiao and Mayweather share the ring is not because it would be the most exciting fight of all time but because we want to see Mayweather suffer his first defeat. We want to see him get knocked out and stop blabbing his mouth about his being undefeated. Furthermore, fans want to know who among the two is most deserving to wear the pound for pound crown. But as to the level of excitement the fight brings? I foresee a fight that?s more frustrating than the Pac-Clottey fight.
To conclude, we boxing fans should not be left sad if no contract gets signed by after Bob Arums deadline. Other great fighters are lining up for the Pacman lottery. Tim Bradley, JuanMa Marquez, Miguel Cotto, Paul Williams, Tony Margarito. These guys would do the honor of trading leathers with Pacquiao. But given the choice, Pacquiao vs. Margarito for the WBC 154 Belt vacated by Sergio Martinez would be the best option when we talk about solidifying the legacy of the Pacman.
