Earlier tonight at the Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage, California, WBO Jr. Welterweight champion Timothy Bradley won a convincing twelve-round decision over previously unbeaten Carlos Abregu at 147 pounds. In the contest Bradley showed excellent speed, elusive movement and the ability to take a punch for a stout punching Welterweight as he was clipped on a few occasions by his Argentinean opponent.
Bradley started very strong and was able to beat Abregu to the punch repeatedly in the first three rounds. Abregua had better success in the middle rounds of the fight but Bradley’s superior conditioning and activity saw him through in what can be looked at as a workmanlike performance.
With the win Bradley moves to 26-0 with 11 knockouts but it is uncertain as to whether he will be campaigning at 140 or 147 pounds in the near future. When asked for his immediate plans Bradley told HBO?s Max Kellerman of his true wishes.
?I?m saying it right now. I want Manny Pacquiao at 147 pounds. Come break down this wall!?
Immediately after echoing his sentiments the crowd inside the arena erupted. Pacquiao likely saw a multi-million dollar fight with Floyd Mayweather go by the wayside last night as the Las Vegas-based fighter refused to give a response to their potential November 13th clash and essentially missed the Midnight deadline that was enforced by promoter Bob Arum. It was stated by Arum that he will be eying fellow Top Rank fighters Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito for suitable replacements but it was likely a good move for Bradley to at least throw his name in the mix.
Before sounding off Bradley told Kellerman that he was an old school fighters and also named such fighters as Devon Alexander, Amir Khan, and Marcos Maidana as foes he would love a crack at in the future. A Pacquiao clash is likely a bit much for Bradley at the moment but perhaps if he continues fighting at 147 pounds he can eye guys like Andre Berto and Shane Mosley for possible bouts that would still put him in the spotlight.
