TRUE to its predecessors’ purpose to promote Davao-based artist, Artisthood mounted a very successful exhibit entitled “A Gift of Art” last November 15 at the second floor of the NCCC Mall.
Graced by Brenda Barba, Fine Arts Department chair of Philippine Women’s College, management of NCCC Mall, some foreign guests and local art enthusiasts, the event was indeed a gift of art as Davao’s prolific, award winning and notable artists presented more than 50 art works ranging from very large to medium-sized but well-detailed works.
Beginning at the entrance, guests were greeted by the different vibrant colors, creative and intricateness of known neo-ethnic and tribal inspired image artist Bong Espinosa’s series of innovative paintings, Philip Somozo’s very inspiring and pulsating art work of the boxing match of Pacquiao and Barreras, and the nature loving and like painting of the very prolific Davao artist Roger Paconla.
At the sides of the exhibit spectators were greeted by the very imaginative and pastel colors of Michael Bauzon’s Bible-inspired artworks, whose sense of dimensions, shapes and color blending are remarkable. The side interiors of the exhibit brought its viewers to a chain of climatic feelings, thoughts and moods of the other members of Artisthood.
Coming into first contact is the dream-like landscape series of Rex Kyamko, whose color transitions creates an illusions of fluid like waves that directly carry its observers to his dreamy real. Catching one’s eyes is the gigantic silver award winning art of guest artist Julius Almonicar, whose depth of though will make one wonder of the meaning behind such a powerful work. Rodney Yap’s works are ever so consistent to a style that is mastered and skillfully done only by a Rodney Yap — surrealistic, classy and refined.
At the heart of the exhibit are works of human relations, romance, beauty, and dreams as such it is set into motion with the nostalgic works of Rob Ta?edo and his near neo-classical abstract works riddled with gold. The psychedelic moving colors of Allan Desierto’s flora are truly festive and lively. Allan Desierto’s new subject is a surprising change from his usual mother and child paintings, yet the paintings have the same passion and intensity.
Award winning artist and art guru — Jun Pamisa gave a treat to this exhibit by presenting the seed art works of some of his award winning works — just done in pencils — Jun’s work is not a mere sketch but a real work of art that is as detailed as its real life painting executions that garnered awards nationally and internationally. Even in his absence because he still making his waves in the United States of America, Ben Ba?ez also graced this exhibit with his dark and yet surprisingly romantic work of the human heart!
And the ever-supportive award winning artist, Ega Carreon gave some wonderful artistic curatorial suggestions to the exhibit even when he is also in the US Ega Carreon had a successful art exhibit in US earlier this year but never forgot his beloved group.
Around the exhibit, one can also see the change of styles of each artist, such as Philip Somozo’s series of nude pointillism which this distinctive “tesserae” strokes serving as complimentary blend to the unusual art subject, Michael Bauzon’s large scaled art work inspired by the bombings around the world. Bong Espinosa’s romanticism with local works of the Philippine Eagle and orchids.
Artisthood has once again able to interweave their own artistic style into a group exhibit that was able to showcase the group’s unity, professionalism and respect to each one’s art.
