Even the Ring Magazine is asking for the real Floyd Mayweather to please stand up

The August 2010 issue of the Ring Magazine is on the newsstands now and it seems to be very fitting that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is gracing the cover. Titled ?Mayweather vs. Mayweather: Who is the real Floyd??, the Ring seems just as baffled as to what is going on in the mind of the Las Vegas-based fighter as the everyday public.

Currently Mayweather has the sport of boxing on hold as it is still unknown whether he will sign to move forward with a proposed November 13th fight with Manny Pacquiao, as promoter Bob Arum has claimed that all points have been agreed upon by both parties for the fight to happen. Mayweather reportedly has until the end of this week to decide and his decision will have a great impact on the landscape of the sport.

Some highlights of the August 2010 issue of the Ring Magazine can be found below?

The man behind Money: The many faces of Floyd Mayweather

Joseph Santoliquito takes a look at the persona of Floyd Mayweather and tries to get a feel for where the Grand Rapids native?s head is at right now. The evolution of Floyd from being an innocent, up and coming champion to a braggadocios athlete who always flaunts his money is looked at in every detail.

In the article Mayweather states that he met the challenges of Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, and Shane Mosley, just like the public demanded. Mayweather also noted that he realizes that there are many people who are waiting for him to get knocked out yet that he will walk away form the sport before he gets too old, killing any chance of that happening?

Coming to America: Amir Khan follows a well-trodden path

Last month Amir Khan made his American debut with an impressive 11th round TKO over brash Brooklyn born Paulie Malignaggi at the theatre in Madison Square Garden. Khan showed tremendous range and speed while showing that he has matured much since his embarrassing September 2008 knockout loss to Breidis Prescott.

Khan?s debut on U.S. soil was examined as compared to that of other British fighters in years past who have attempted to make their mark in America such as Prince Naseem Hamed, former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis, Frank Bruno and others?

Fernando Montiel: The new king of Los Mochis

David Mayo takes a look at Sinaloa, Mexico fighter Fernando Montiel, who has been a staple in the boxing world for many years dating back to his championship run in the flyweight division. Montiel?s time growing up and training in Los Mochis is looked at in depth and seems to be the foundation for his success in the sport.

Montiel is currently penciled in for a July 17th clash with Rafael Concepcion in Chiapas, Mexico . After that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum mentioned that he would look into making a clash between the WBO Bantamweight champion and ultra-talented Nonito Donaire, who is coming off of an 8th round stoppage over Hernan ?Tyson? Marquez last weekend?

The Ring interview: Carl Froch

It?s hard to recall a fighter in the sport who talks as good of a game as former champion Carl Froch. The Nottingham fighter has been in the American spotlight ever since his April 2009 stoppage of Jermain Taylor as well as his involvement in Showtime?s Super Six tournament. Froch is coming off of a competitive loss at the hands of Mikkel Kessler this past April and is eyeing a return bout with Arthur Abraham later in the year.

During his interview with the Ring Froch went into great detail about his immediate future, his thoughts on the other combatants in the Super Six, the injuries that have plagued his career, the promotional side of the sport, and much more?

Jalisco’s Saul Alvarez

Freckle-faced redhead Saul Alvarez is featured in the Magazine as well. The 19-year old Jalisco, Mexico native speaks no English and had to speak to the Ring through his publicist Ramiro Gonzalez. Nicknamed ?Canelo?, Alvarez opened up about his love for boxing, early days in the sport, and career aspirations.

Alvarez is thought of very highly by the brass at Golden Boy Promotions, his promoter. He is coming off of a 6th round TKO over Luciano Cuello and is scheduled to return to action September 18th at the Staples Center as part of the Shane Mosley-Sergio Mora undercard…
