Bacolod Rep. Anthony Golez and Saranggani Rep. Emmanuel Pacquiao yesterday filed House Bill 1098 seeking the postponement of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections from October this year to the last Monday of October 2011.
Golez last night said the bill had representation from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao as their two other co-authors were Quirino Rep. Dakila Carlo Cua and Ilocos Sur Rep. Eric Singson.
Golez said he is seeking the postponement of the barangay elections since the country is currently suffering from a budget deficit and the money intended for the barangay elections can be used in the meantime for priority programs, such as much needed classrooms, health services and housing.. A businessman was killed by a falling tree in a freak accident in Brgy. Villamonte, Bacolod City, Wednesday
The police identified the victim yesterday as Pablo Sapio, 52, of Greensville 2 Subdivision in Brgy. Villamonte, who is into the landscaping business.
Police Station 4 commander Chief Insp. Danilo Francisco said that investigation conducted by Senior Police Officer 1 Rommel Parcon showed that Sapio had earlier commissioned Randy Lama, 37, of Hacienda Consolacion, Brgy Granada, to cut the 50 or 70 feet tall eucalyptus tree in his back yard for P4,000.

One of the four hold-uppers of a mini-store at the public market in Brgy. Aguisan in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, Wednesday night was shot by a member of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group when they fought back.
Police Officer 2 Dexter Capunong of the Himamaylan police identified the suspect as Joel Eleuperio, 44, of Purok Bagumbayan, Brgy. 7 in Isabela town, this province, who was hit in his right ankle.
Eleuperio was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod, where he is now recuperating. His companions identified as alias ?Tony?, alias ?Tisoy?, and alias ?Jonie? escaped.
