Just some stuff I heard over the weekend, in what has been among the slowest boxing years in a long time…
– Was told on Friday while at the Citizens Business Bank Arena for Friday Night Fights, that Chris Arreola will make an appearance at the CBBA on August 13th as the main event on FNF on ESPN2. One possible opponent is Manny Quezada, a fellow Mexican heavyweight. It?s very simple, nobody wants Arreola to just sit and wait and wait for the next HBO opportunity because, well, you know why.
– A source tells me that September 25th has been kicked around as the next date for Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Haven?t heard anything regarding who he might be facing. But if this date sticks, that pretty much assures he wont be facing the likes of Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito- which he?s not ready for, anyways.
– If everything goes OK for Juan Ma Lopez versus Bernabe Concepcion this weekend, his fight against Rafael Marquez will take place at the MGM Grand, I?m told. The date remains September the 18th.
– Just wondering, as it relates to the rematch between Juan Manuel Marquez and Juan Diaz, when was the last time you saw a pay-per-view main event that had both fighters coming in with losses?
– Just my gut feel, but despite what Bob Arum announced last week, I don?t think we?ll see a Pacquiao-Maywewather fight in 2010 and that what we?ll end up seeing his a Pacquiao-Antonio Margarito fight. Which I?m sure will upset a lot of folks.
Not me, I can?t wait to be in Dallas for that one. Those who are against this, well, they can just make the decision not to watch it. That?s the free-market system at work….
