For the first time in over 3 1/2 months, Joshua Clottey finally spoke to the media since his overwhelming loss to Manny Pacquiao. His comments were very honest and could possibly be a foreshadowing of what will happen to Floyd Mayweather Jr in his potential ‘Fight of the Century’ with the Pacman. If I were Floyd Jr, I would listen up to what Clottey had to say. Let’s examine how Clottey’s comments can translate into the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. Will Floyd Mayweather Jr make another retirement announcement at his upcoming kids summer camp? “The only thing I remember is that as soon as I got in the dressing room my mind and my focus and everything got shut down. I started feeling like I didn’t want to fight or something. I was like come on lets fight trying to get myself to fight. I really don’t understand what happened to me in that fight.” Clottey, Boxingscene Perhaps, Clottey was overwhelmed by the magnitude of this fight. He was on the biggest stage of his career. In fact, it will be the biggest stage he ever fights on. Nothing else will compare to this fight with Manny. Perhaps, the thoughts of fighting the world’s top pound-for-pound fighter intimidated him. It could have been his subconscious going into survival mode knowing he was going into a battle with a fighter who would beat him. Unlike Joshua Clottey, I think Floyd Mayweather Jr is already experiencing these issues. I think Floyd Jr has already shut down which is why the fight hasn’t happened yet.
