Donaire’s wish list

WBA Interim Super Flyweight Champ Nonito Donaire Jr. is on his final preparations for his upcoming defense against Hernan ?Tyson? Marquez on July 10, 2010 in Puerto Rico. The fight will be in the undercard of the Lopez vs. Concepcion Featherweight Championship. I caught up with the champ and asked him several candid questions.

8CN: Hi Champ! Hope all is great in your preparations for your upcoming fight.

ND: Training camp is great. I always give my 100% in every fight. So I?m really focused on this one. Right now I?m doing 12 rounds of sparring.

8CN: We?ve heard this is your last fight at 115. We want to know Champ, how far do you think can you go up in weight?

ND: I believe I can go up to 130 but now with my nutritionist and my strength trainer, possibly 135 to 140, God willing.

8CN: We you?re taller than our average Pinoy boxers. I?m pretty sure you can go farther in moving up and carry your speed and power in the process. If you have a dream fight, who would it be against?

ND: Man I have a long list of dream fights. There?s Fernando Montiel at 118, there?s Rafael Marquez at 122 and there JuanMa Lopez at 126. I?d love to have a crack at these guys.

8CN: What?s your prediction on your fight with Tyson Marquez?

ND: I’m not really onto predicting or calling fights but I can say I’m gonna use all I have to go and give the fans a great entertaining fight.

8CN: After your upcoming fight, what?s next for the Filipino Flash?

ND: I?m moving up to 118 and fight Fernando Montiel.

8CN: What?s your message to Darchinyan and Montiel who appear to be scared of facing you?

ND: I’m not going to talk crap about the boxers who don’t want to fight me. They have their reasons. All I gotta say is I’m here out to fight the best and I respect anyone who signs their name next to mine on a fight contract.

8CN: Very well said Champ. Good luck on your fight and thanks to you and Mrs. D. for the time!

ND: Thanks as well 8CN!
