I’m not sure what this perky blond sportscaster has going for herself credibility-wise, but I don’t think “The Fight” between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao is on the brink of being announced. It’s getting closer, yes, but not there yet.
I was in San Antonio, Texas over the weekend as was promoter Bob Arum and Freddie Roach for the Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. vs. John Duddy fight. The big fight wasn’t discussed and absent from the proceedings during fight week was company president Todd DuBoef.
Maybe DuBoef was busy back at his Las Vegas office working on “The Fight’s” many details with Golden Boy’s CEO Richard Schaefer.
I believe “The Fight” is being seriously discussed by decision makers and at some point we will either have a fight or not if the blood-testing questions are resolved to everyone’s satisfaction.
I believe Pacquiao has given Arum a “get it done” mandate and he trusts Arum’s judgment to do just that and not be too fussy over minor details which could give Mayweather a slight percentage advantage in their respective purses.
I think if Steve Wynn outbids the MGM Grand and takes “The Fight” to UNLV’s Thomas & Mack Center and the high rollers funnel through the Wynn Las Vegas rather than the MGM Grand it would be an amazing turn of events but there will probably be enough money to go around for everybody involved.
With Pacquiao having taken a family vacation and sliding into his political mode, it seems as if “The Fight” has landed on the back burner for a while, but once things perk up this event will create hysteria rarely seen if ever from a boxing event.
