Sources close to the information have informed us that three-division champion Shane Mosley has selected former jr. middleweight champion Sergio Mora as his next opponent when he makes his return to the ring on September 18. Both parties are in agreement with the terms and the bout, set to take place at the STAPLES Center and televised live on Pay-Per-View, is nearly finalized. Although the undercard has yet to be finalized, fans who do decide to purchase the pay-per-view will be happy to know that they’ll get another opportunity to see Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, who will likely make an appearance given that the event is taking place on the weekend of Mexican Independence Day.
Whether or not it will be HBO’s pay-per-view arm that distributes the September 18 card remains to be seen, however, the fact that this will be the THIRD Golden Boy pay-per-view card of the year headlined by a fighter coming off of a devastating loss is questionable. The first card, held on April 3, featured Bernard Hopkins taking on Roy Jones Jr., who was stopped by Danny Green in the first round just one fight prior to that. The second card, taking place on July 31, will feature, not one, but two fighters coming off embarrassing losses in the main event. Juan Diaz will try to redeem himself after being easily outpointed by Paulie Malignaggi in a unanimous decision loss and Juan Manuel Marquez will look to erase the memory of his lopsided unanimous decision loss to Floyd Mayweather, a bout where he only landed 69 punches. This September, fans can now also look forward to another pay-per-view card headlined by a loser as Shane Mosley, also coming off of a lopsided unanimous decision loss to Floyd Mayweather, will try to rejuvenate his career at a higher weight against Sergio Mora.
